Texas Home and Community-Based Services (HCS)

NUDO Homes provides HCS services in Texas, serving eligible individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Greater Houston and surrounding communities.

Our HCS services are designed to support choice, independence, skill development, community participation, and everyday quality of life. We work with individuals, families, service coordinators, and support teams to help ensure services reflect each person’s approved plan, goals, and needs.

HCS Services Available Through NUDO Homes

We provide all of the services offered by the HCS program, including:

NUDO Homes provides residential and in-home supports designed around each individual’s needs, preferences, and approved HCS service plan.

Services may include:

  • Residential Support Services for individuals who need ongoing assistance in a community-based residential setting.
  • Supervised Living for individuals who benefit from regular support and supervision.
  • Host Home/Companion Care for individuals who prefer a smaller, home-based living arrangement.
  • Supported Home Living for individuals living in their own home or family home who need assistance with daily living, personal care, skill development, or greater independence.
  • Respite Services that provide temporary relief for unpaid caregivers while ensuring the individual continues to receive appropriate support

Our goal is to provide the level of support each person needs while promoting choice, independence, safety, and meaningful participation in everyday life.

Nursing services provide support and assessments to help maintain the individual’s health.

Dental services are available to individual’s to maintain good oral care up to $2,000 per year.

Individualized Skills & Socialization formerly known as Day Habilitation services help people with disabilities develop skills and independence. Services include community involvement activities, vocational training, life skills training, and health and wellness education.

Specialized Therapies can include the following services:

  • Occupational therapy
  • Speech therapy
  • Physical therapy
  • Dietary services
  • Audiology services
  • Cognitive rehabilitation services (services for people with brain injury)
  • Behavioral Support

Social Work services help individuals and families address social, emotional, and environmental needs related to the individual’s HCS services and goals. Services may include assessments, counseling, and assistance with accessing appropriate community resources and supports.

An adaptive aid is an item or service that enables an individual to retain or increase the ability to perform activities of daily living, or to control the individual’s environment.

Minor home modifications are physical changes made to an individual’s residence to address specific disability-related needs and support greater safety, accessibility, independence, or control within the home.

For individuals receiving HCS services, minor home modifications may include approved adaptations that help the person function more independently in their residence.

Current HCS limits include:

Minor Home Modifications: HCS allows up to $7,500 during the time a person is enrolled in the HCS program. In addition, up to $300 per IPC year may be available for repair and maintenance of approved minor home modifications. Texas Health and Human Services

HHSC’s broader LTSS comparison also confirms the HCS limit as $7,500 plus $300 per IPC year for repair and maintenance.

Service limits and program requirements are established by Texas HHSC and may change. Eligibility and authorization depend on the individual’s approved service plan.

 

Employment Assistance helps individuals identify their employment interests, strengths, skills, and preferred work environment, and can include help locating and pursuing competitive employment in the community.

Supported Employment provides ongoing support for individuals who need assistance to maintain competitive employment. Support may include job coaching, training, workplace adaptations, and other assistance related to the individual’s assessed needs.

Minor home modifications must be related to the individual’s assessed needs and approved service plan. General home repairs, remodeling, or improvements that are not directly related to the individual’s disability-related needs are not covered under this service.
